Among the many prestigious names that loved Moscadello di Montalcino, also the great poet Ugo Foscolo is mentioned. He began to appreciate this wine during his Florentine period on the Colle di Bellosguardo between 1812 and 1813. It was a period of great anxiety for Foscolo: tight circumstances, suspected of antibonapartist activities and conflicts with the Milanese intellectuals. During the Florentine period Foscolo tried Moscadello: it was a consolatory wine and he loved to drink it with his friends.
